Which style is best for you?

Yoga can benefit anyone who applies themselves. First ask yourself why you want to attend yoga. If you know why, then you will be able to determine a class that is in line with your needs and ability! Read below to see which class sounds good for you.

Restorative styles of yoga are beneficial for everyone! Restorative styles of yoga ask us to stop, breathe and pay attention to our bodies in the present moment. These classes absolutely lessen stress, open up the body to help the healing process or begin a meditation practice, there are so many benefits, this is always a nice place to begin a yoga journey.

Vinyasa Flow classes are great for healthy jointed people who do not have recent injuries and for students who have experience practicing yoga poses previously. Most often these classes include options for more challenging poses and move fairly quickly. Vinyasa styles involve linking your breath and movement together. Theses classes offer a focus for the mind, as well as a challenge for the body.

Beginner- Basic

Beginner classes are for more than only beginners! They are slower paced and teach safe poses and listening to your own body for guidance. I am always surprised to remember when I attend a beginner class just how effective it can be for strength and focus. Returning to foundations in anything gives us the opportunity to refine our skill.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan) is a technology for overall health and vitality that anyone can begin to use. Movements and poses are incorporated with breath, mantra (sound repetition), and mudra (hand position). This type of yoga practice targets the organs, glands and meridian lines of the body that are taught in Chinese medicine. The other understanding in these teachings is that we are opening the body's own energy and clearing the energy centers. There is a profound feeling of 'waking up' for many people who choose this as a routine practice. These practices balance mental energy, emotional energy and physical energy. I also find they offer a direct experience with the Spirit of your own belief system.

Mindful Flow is a flow yoga class with the addition of some functional movements for building stability and maintaining healthy joints and tissues. Mindfulness is a practice of being present without judgement. Focusing on your breath is common mindfulness technique we practice. Since movement and mind are intrinsically linked, practicing mindfulness while moving in new ways enhances brain function and awareness. This is a good class for people who want to build a solid fundamental yoga practice, build body awareness and learn about the different aspects of yoga.

Function & Flow is a strengthening, flow yoga class with the addition of full body, "safe and smart movement patterns" of functional movement. This practice emphasizes building the stability muscles for maintaining healthy joints and tissues. This helps to prevent injuries making it a beneficial yoga practice on its own, or a great compliment all other movement and athletic practices. Since movement and mind are intrinsically linked, there is a strong brain/mind-body component here that builds new pathways of moving/thinking to enhance brain function and awareness. This class is fun and will keep you feeling youthful! We practice inversions each week and balance the active class with a full savasana rest to finish.(Based on Physical Therapist/Yogi Lara Heimann)

Hot Yoga for Strength and Agility

This class is taught in a 95-100 degree room. This class is helpful for yoga students and athletes alike who want to build strength, endurance and practice moving efficiently. We begin with core work and go between movement and longer held poses. The infrared heat and movement work together to unwind tension and increase your range of motion safely, while building the stability for the joints. This combination lowers risk of injury in general. There is an emphasis on body awareness and mind/body connection. You will sweat! Hand/face towels provided.
